Dad’s Toy Trucks

My dad loved toys especially trucks. He loved to collect miniature die casts, Hess Trucks and even create his own wooden ones. The homemade ones are my favorite. When my brother and I were young my dad would make each of us our own original wooden toys. These weren’t simple designs cut from pine. They were crafted from hardwoods and had real moving parts. My dad had a talent for meeting people. It didn’t matter where we went, Dad would introduce himself to total strangers always with a handshake and a smile. He loved being with people. We could be in a huge crowd and he would look around and say, ” Don’t I know you? I’m Ted Gurley from Baldwinsville, NY”. His friendly smile and outlook on life are etched on my heart.
