Happy Birthday, Dad

Today would have been my Dad’s 72nd birthday. We miss him so much. I remember that he loved making his birthday stretch out all day….sometimes all week. I remember calling him and asking him how he was celebrating. He’d list off what they were doing or having for dinner. He’d always end it with, “but a call from my sons is the icing on the cake.” Happy Birthday, Dad. I love you.

The Fan, My Dad

Selection sunday is the one day of the year where moderate to die heart basketball fans get a chance to fill out their NCAA tournament bracket sheets. Basketball season did not start for my family on selection sunday, it started at the beginning of November every year. In my early childhood, I played basketball throughout my school years, but as I grew older I became a normal fan like everyone else. My dad is a normal fan. It’s rare that...

Dad the Problem Solver

My dad was a problem solver. The kind of person who made you feel secure. Toaster not working? Radio on the blink? No problem. You have to pay your own way in life.” The truth is because he is a great dad he can’t stop giving to his kids because...

A Perfect Day

A Perfect Day Even at 7 O’Clock in the morning I could tell……It was going to be one of those God awful, wicked hot, summer days. Any clothes would just stick right to you. No playing ball in the circle, or hiking through the woods, or even taking the long walk to Bill’s Luncheonette for a fountain coke and some Mary Janes…… not today. No, there’s only one escape, just one way to get sweet relief……. The Lake. It was like a...

I count my lucky stars…

I only have good memories of my Dad. He was an upbeat, generous and kind man, always with a sense of humor. He was never short of a joke at the dinner table where I suppose we should have been discussing current events or something awfully serious. Many were real groaners, but you never got tired of seeing his big fat grin and hearing that delicious laugh of his. He was also unusually cheerful in the morning when he did his best to GET US UP...
